As a Science Department we are proud to offer opportunities for all pupils and our local community to broaden and extend their knowledge and enjoyment of science, engineering and mathematics. During lunchtimes and after school a varied programme of events and clubs cater for many tastes. These range from day visits to Universities and events to weekend master classes and visits to the Cheltenham Science Festival and the Mathematics Challenge. As part of Science and Engineering week our “Science Is Fun For Parents Too” event allows parents to experience the enjoyment of practical experimentation that students undertake everyday in science lessons.
We believe as a Department in Science for all and lessons are delivered in a practical and interactive way to encourage active learning. The challenge of new technologies and innovations and the ever-changing practical skills required by modern day life are an exciting focus for our curriculum.
We follow the OCR Gateway Science Core GCSE in Year 10 and Additional GCSE in Year 11 with many students also opting for triple award science in Physics, Chemistry and Biology GCSE. A small number of students study for Cambridge Nationals in Science and Science in the Workplace.
Our students can benefit from participation in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities within our department. These range from participation in national competitions such as the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Salters Challenge, Biology Olympiad, to lunchtime Science clubs and after school Science and Engineering workshops.
