Our students are standing up for the planet

Rebecca, who starts in Sixth Form in September, joined the Gloucester Youth Theatre to develop and act in a drama piece called I Stand for What I Stand On, while Cerian’s project on coral reefs has won a national prize.

After rehearsals on Zoom during lockdown and supported by Strike a Light theatre company, the group performed the piece at Cheltenham Science Festival and is now taking it to The Rooftop Festival in Gloucester in July. Read more about how the show came together here.

Rebecca said,

“The Science Festival went really well and was an amazing opportunity. We also got to take part in a Q&A with other activists, including Gina Martin (the campaigner who made up-skirting illegal) and Dara McAnulty (author of Diary of a Young Naturalist).

I was asked to speak on BBC Radio Gloucestershire about the performance and we are booking a national tour.

She is looking forward to performing at the Rooftop Festival in Gloucester on 18th July.

Young Environmentalist’s success
Cerian in Year 7 has progressed to win the overall Rotary Young Environmentalist Competition, after success in the regional round. He has been awarded a £50 gift card.
