One of the early highlights of the new academic year is the recognition of progress, effort and achievement that we celebrate at The Cotswold School Awards evening, welcoming students to receive their awards alongside their families. Last week we were delighted to be joined by the Right Reverend Rachel Treweek, Bishop of Gloucester, as our inspiring guest speaker. Bishop Rachel presented each of the winners with a book of their choice.

Will Morgan, Headteacher, said,

“Awards night is a special evening in the school year and, as always, our celebration for the 2022-23 academic year was a wonderful occasion, as we marked the successes of members of the whole school. Our key-note speaker, Bishop Rachel, reiterated our school values of being kind and supporting others, as well as respecting and embracing our differences – having our own identity. We looking forward to continuing the school’s links with Bishop Rachel with her project ‘Liedentity’, helping people discuss the issues around social media and self-esteem.”

At the end of his speech, Mr Morgan paid tribute to Jenny Illingworth who sadly passed away last year. A very dedicated member of staff within our SEND Department, her work made such a difference to so many pupils. Jenny’s legacy continues with the great work within the Department.

Over 200 prizes were presented on the evening, in 10 award categories, including Subject Awards presented to students who demonstrate an excellent approach in a particular subject, in each year group.

The Headteacher’s prizes were awarded to people throughout the school for their commitment to school life, to their community or other causes. Their award could be in recognition of their approach to challenges that they face.

Awards for Excellence at GCSE were given to Oli K, Lulu L-F, Abi M, Emily P, Blake R and Millicent S, with The Ann Holland Prize for outstanding achievement at GCSE awarded to Katie H and Katy O, both of whom are studying A levels at The Cotswold School Sixth Form.

The Gaynor Didcote Prize for outstanding achievement at A Level was awarded to Daniel L who achieved A* Maths, A* Further Maths, A* Chemistry, A* Physics and an A in his Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

The North Cotswolds Rotary Young Citizen of the Year Award went to Oliver T (Year 7), Arthur R (Year 8), Deeo S (Year 9) and Florence A (Y10) and Maya S (Y12).

The Work Experience Cup was won by Leo K (Year 10), Employability and Life Skills by Will S (Year 10) and Musician of the Year was Reuben W (Year 12).

The awards were given in September for effort and progress achieved in the 2022-23 academic year and in the summer examinations.

Congratulations to all students who won a prize.

Thank you to The Cotswold School Chair of Governors Andrew Parker for his welcome speech and to our Head Students Jasmine and Adam for their introductions and vote of thanks. We would also like to thank Reuben and Theo for their incredible musical performances.
