Lego programming course makes mechanical robots
In a joint project between the Science department and our Aspire scheme, eight Year 8 students have recently completed the LEGO Coding Success programme.
This is developed in partnership with the Smallpiece Trust and Raising Robots. Students get the opportunity to build and code their own LEGO robots using LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime kits.
They completed several different challenges, including building an earthquake simulator to test the structural integrity of different buildings, and removing rubble from a disaster zone. They came up with some fantastic solutions to each problem and have learnt to programme the bluetooth hub that controls the LEGO robots. Mrs Newby, Stretch and Challenge (Aspire) coordinator, visited the final lesson and was impressed with how innovative the students’ designs were.
Congratulations to Max, Sam, Oliver T, Oliver S, Flavia, Ava, Eva and Louis for their hard-work. Now a new group will take on a similar challenge.
