Emily joins the National Youth Harp Orchestra

We are delighted to share the wonderful news that, following the latest round of auditions, Sixth Former Emily is now part of the National Youth Harp Orchestra of Great Britain. Emily has already started rehearsals and will perform across the UK, including at the Royal College of Music in London.

The National Youth Harp Orchestra of Great Britain is an ensemble of nearly 40 harpists of all ages, with the most committed and gifted young harpists from across the UK selected through a competitive audition process.

Immensely proud of Emily’s hard work and determination, Natasha Gale, Harp Teacher, said, “I am incredibly proud of Emily’s determination throughout the past lockdowns to reach this level of performing and thankful for the support from her parents in this ambitious feat. The Music Department here at The Cotswold School aims to give students endless possibilities- you’re never too old to begin an instrument and create something beautiful! Well done Emily!”

Emily Hancock added, “I’ve really enjoyed meeting and playing with other harpists. It such a unique opportunity to play all sorts of different music and I’m looking forward to performing in the UK, and hopefully abroad! Although it’s hard work, it’s a great atmosphere and very rewarding.”

At The Cotswold School, creative arts subjects are highly valued and an integral part of our school life. Within the Music Department, we offer individual instrumental lessons in a variety of styles, from all the orchestral instruments including the harp, rock guitar and bass; musical theatre vocal studies to classical and operatic styles. We have a busy extra curricula program of events from large scale events such as our Summer Music Festival ‘Cadence’ and our traditional Christmas candlelit concert at Christ Church in Cheltenham this year; to smaller teatime concerts giving pupils the chance to learn to perform or perfect their exam pieces. We believe in encouraging all pupils of every musical taste to get involved and thrive!
