History students collaborate with Achimota School in Ghana
Year 9 History students recently completed a collaborative project with our link school in Accra, Ghana, called ‘Learning from a Pandemic’.
This involved students in both schools studying and sharing information on how countries have responded to the Covid-19 pandemic in similar and different ways, as well as how these responses compare and contrast to responses to historic pandemics.
Katie said,
“Many countries have regular epidemics, for us this was the first in centuries. This pandemic was different from previous ones as it affected almost everyone in some way.”
From studying previous pandemics, Milly summarised that vaccines were important; our understanding of the causes of viruses has impacted prevention over time; medieval doctors attempted to use astrology and religious ideas to treat people suffering with a virus – and even diagnosed them by smelling and tasting bodily fluids.
