Year 9 historians meet a World War One ‘tommy’

As part of activities in our History curriculum, students are sharing an hour in the life of a soldier from a Pals Battalion, Private Henry Fairhurst (played by a professional actor), as he talks about his experience of life in the trenches.

Was it really all mud and blood in the trenches, or did Private Fairhurst see some benefits in what he was doing? What did the words mean in the songs that he and his fellow soldiers sang?

This workshop supports learning about the causes of World War One in the week that we mark Remembrance, when we have been considering why we remember and the impact of war.
