Music

Music comprises 50% of the Performing Arts curriculum, along with Drama.

In Year 7, we cover confidence and technique in singing, reading and writing musical notation, using Mixcraft and Sibelius software packages. We also learn to play the keyboard. We have a go at playing, and learn about, the instruments of the orchestra.

In Year 8 we look at the Bluesand ensemble performance. We discover bass lines and trace them back to the Baroque era and listen to modern tracks, too, to see how this feature has evolved.

In Year 9 we cover film music; popular music styles; and look in more depth at music composition techniques and theory.

Outside of lessons, we have lots of ensembles and choirs, as well as in-school music instruction, from drums to the harp, for individual instruments, taught by external music teachers. Our students love performing and our most recent ticketed show was Sister Act.
