Robotics teams triumph!

Fantastic news for our Year 8 robotics teams! Last weekend, our students competed in a schools’ coding and robotics championship, VEX IQ Competition, held at The Cotswold School. It is the first time the Year 8 teams have entered the competition and all of our teams were amazing!

Four Cotswold School teams competed altogether, with ‘TCS Vextreme’ winning both the individual and teamwork overall award, which qualifies them for the National Championships in March. ‘TCS Cheesemonsters’ finished second, with ‘TCS Army’ winning the Design Award for their excellent sketchbook.

‘TCS TinkerBots” also did really well in the competition and gave a fantastic performance throughout the day.

The next competition is on Wednesday 30th November at Stowe School and then, on December 10th, The Cotswold School host another competition for our Year 10 and 12 teams.

Mr Kelly, Head of Design & Technology, said,

“What a fantastic day for all of our Year 8 teams, with TCS Vextreme the overall winners and TCS Army winning the Design Award. This achievement is outstanding, especially as this is the first time the Year 8 teams have entered the competition – they should all be extremely proud of their achievements. ”

What is Vex Robotics?

VEX competitions are a great way to expose students to valuable soft skills like communication, collaboration and time-management in a fun and authentic way. The VEX Robotics Competition prepares students to become future innovators with 95% of participants reporting an increased interest in STEM subject areas and pursuing STEM-related careers.

The competition sees more than 11,500 teams from 40 countries play in over 750 tournaments locally, regionally, nationally – all aiming to make it to the world championships. Teams compete in alliances to score points against the opposition, ‘driving’ their robot constructions in a series of timed challenges.
