Rotary Young Chef 2024/25
At our recent Open Evening, Year 10 students Florence, Grace, Honey, Jessica, Joe and Nell took part in the first round, the Local Heat, of the Rotary Club Young Chef Competition 2024/25, sponsored by the North Cotswolds Rotary Club. In front of Rotary Club members and Year 5 and 6 pupils and their families, students put their culinary skills to the test, judged by by local chefs, renowned Michelin trained private Chef Kuba Winkowski and Terri Collett.
As part of the competition, each student planned and cooked a two-course meal. All students had a two hour preparation time and, working within an £18 budget, created a range of culinary delights.
Overall winner Florence wowed the judges with her menu, as did Grace who was announced runner-up.
Florence’s winning menu consisted of; chicken breast with mushroom, tarragon and crème fraiche sauce; roasted potatoes in olive oil, rosemary and garlic and tenderstem broccoli; and strawberry mascarpone tarts.
Grace made a chicken arrabbiata with homemade pasta and a very berry cheesecake.
Florence was presented with her prize by North Cotswolds Rotary Club President Diana White and will go onto represent the school in the District Competition on Saturday 18 January 2025.
Mr Smith said, “All competitors should be really proud of what they have achieved. Cooking under pressure is very hard, cooking on display with hundreds of parents walking around is even harder.”
“Thank you to the North Cotswolds Rotary and to all of our judges.”
Congratulations to everyone that took part.
