Mathematics
AS and A Level
A Level Mathematics reveals the richness and depth of a subject universally valued for its utility. Mathematics at this level is also a beautiful and creative subject, which provides intense satisfaction to those who study it.
Building on our work at GCSE, we develop further skills in Algebra and Number before working on Calculus: the study of continuity and change. Much of the material introduced in the Statistics and Mechanics sections of the course supports understanding in the sciences.
We emphasise the value of problem solving and proof, working with rigour as new ideas are introduced. We also make explicit the connections between mathematical concepts, highlighting the important structure underpinning what we do.
Careers and study progression
We have a proud record of students studying Pure Mathematics at university. A Mathematics degree also complements many other subjects, such as in the Sciences and Social Sciences, and also Music, Literature, and Philosophy. Mathematicians pursue careers in fields as varied as research, medicine, engineering, finance, pathology and construction.
