Researching our post-18 futures
A brilliant experience for Year 12: Our lively UCAS and Careers Preparation days featured some great insights, including focusing on CV writing, personal statements, apprenticeships, finance, and career choices.
As well as using the study room computer terminals to conduct their own explorations into careers, apprenticeships and Higher Education, supported by tutors, students had break-out sessions in small groups, one-to-ones and lecture-style talks from our visiting experts.
A big thank you to all our speakers and visitors – here’s a selection from the programme:
- ‘Writing a personal statement’ by Ross Pickering, Oxford Brookes University
- ‘The EPQ’ by Sarah Byard, Lancaster University
- ‘Student finance’ by Robin Lovatt, Aberystwyth University (pictured)
- ‘Gap years’ with Peter Wilson of Project Trust
- ‘Choosing university courses’ by Jack Costerton, University of Gloucestershire.
In addition, we’ve had sessions with tutors and careers advisors on personal statements, professional applications and references; an apprenticeship workshop; career choices for those who are keen to start work after Sixth Form; and a focus on CV writing.
