UK Apprentice of the Year – well done Tyla!

Our former student, who is now a busy local beautician, has won a national award.

Tyla, one of The Cotswold School’s former pupils, now works at Beautylicious, one of Bourton’s local businesses. She kept in touch with her former tutor, Mrs Graham, sharing the fantastic news that she had won the award for Best Beauty Therapy Apprentice in the UK, 2020.

Tyla said that Mrs Graham had given her, “the confidence and belief that I can go far and achieve my goals.”

Mrs Graham, who was Tyla’s tutor for five years, was delighted to hear of her success. She said,

“Tyla worked extremely hard and was very motivated to succeed. I’m not at all surprised that she won this outstanding accolade – it’s thoroughly deserved because she is such lovely young woman – and I’m looking forward to watching her progress over the next few years.”

Tyla said that she was always “the go-to friend” when it comes to plucking eyebrows or painting nails. “I decided to pursue my passion and turn it into a career. Having first done a week’s work experience with my employer to see whether it would be a good career choice, it only took me the best part of a day to know it was for me!”

She feels confidence and willingness to learn are crucial to success:

“Confidence is key, whether it’s whilst applying a treatment or speaking with a client. Showing this confidence makes the client feel comfortable and hopefully makes them return. Another tip I can give is learning from others. This will help aid your progression and prove to your employer that you can take learning into your own hands.”
