What are we learning?
This term we will start with games and tasks to encourage and develop confidence in the subject. We will also start to explore the text Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and be introduced to drama techniques of freeze frame, thought tracking, narration and physical theatre. The lessons will focus on students working collaboratively in different size groups to develop confidence and skills.
Why is this important to know?
Students will develop confidence and encourage participation in a subject that will be new to many students. Reading and performing of a script, using a variety of new techniques and development of skills through group work with develop self-confidence and support the start of a new term and school.
Where does this link into our past and future learning?
Pupils will develop skills in character development using voice, gestures, and movement. Explore the script using dramatic techniques such as narration, thought tracking and freeze frames all of which are essential skills for progression in Year 7 and throughout the key stage.
How will we be assessed on this topic?
Students will be assessed practically at the end of the scheme of work focusing on the skills and confidence developed using a section of the script as a starting point. The 3 elements of the assessment:
- Group work- co-operation and participation.
- Character development – use of voice, movement
- Use of techniques – narration, thought tracking, freeze frames.

Students will be expected to perform in front of the class and demonstrate their understanding of the characters using appropriate voice, gestures and movement.
