From making slime to flying drones at the Big Bang Fair
Year 7 visited the Big Bang Fair in Birmingham for a day of hands-on science and technology activities.
Elinor in 7VMO enjoyed it and wrote a report!
“A great number of different companies, universities, businesses and organisations were participating, and we could do a variety of different activities at their stands, from making slime to flying drones. We learnt amazing facts about science, technology and engineering. For example, scientists from the Royal Entomological Society showed us how to handle live insects and at the stand of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, we could make Lego models for sustainable inventions and have a go at being an IET.tv presenter ourselves.
“There also was a huge building activity, where we could make shapes out of cardboard, a stand from Code4drones and the RAF, as well as many others.
“This was an exciting and eye-opening day for all of us, and I was particularly interested by the Entomological stand, which taught me some curious facts. For example, did you know that some grasshoppers eat their own poo and that daddy long legs have the ability to detach their legs to escape predators?
It was also interesting to learn about the importance of insects and their rapidly decreasing population.”
