A triumphant show celebrating books and libraries

In their triumphant performance, ‘Between the Pages’, students from Year 8 and Year 10, in Mrs Roberts’ Drama Club, celebrated some classic books and humorous characters.

Much-loved personalities from The Wind in the Willows, The Twits, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and Lord of the Flies performed with lots of humour and energy. The audience loved it – and also had the chance to enjoy The Aird Library garden at the start of the evening, where they met Alice and the White Rabbit among many other familiar faces.

Mrs Roberts, who runs drama club said,

“The idea for the play came from watching ‘Robin Hood’ at Bristol Old Vic, where a young boy is left in a library and stumbles across an old copy of Robin Hood. He is transported into the book and becomes part of the wonderful adventures.

“The opening of The Aird Library this year inspired me to explore this idea, using different famous texts that you would find in a library. We discover these books through the character of a reluctant teenager, having to navigate the books without really understanding their wonderful opportunities and possibilities to escape.

“In a world full of technology, I thought this concept would be fun to explore.  I always wanted the set to be minimal, for ease of transitions but also for the students to understand that theatre doesn’t always have to have a huge backdrop. The children in drama club were a joy to work with, a great bunch of students who all worked so hard and collaboratively to produce a fantastic performance. I’m super-proud of all of them.”
