Values & Ethos

Our Values

The values of ‘friendship and knowledge’, shown on the school badge, show two things that are extremely important to us. ‘Friendship’ reflects how much we value high quality relationships between all people in our community; our students; our parents, carers and families; our staff; our governors; our local and wider communities. ‘Knowledge’ symbolises the high importance we place on learning and improving ourselves. It encompasses not only gaining more knowledge, but also understanding concepts more deeply, developing our skills and building our character qualities. We feel these four aspects – knowledge, understanding, skill and qualities - are succinctly summarised in the word ‘knowledge’.

Our Ethos

The practices that distinguish our school include:

• Providing exceptional teaching and encouraging individual aspiration. Together, these drive progress and attainment for every student.
• Encouraging and supporting our students to thrive academically and personally, so that they develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to succeed in their future lives.
• Creating an inspiring, caring and inclusive school community, responding to the needs of all our students and staff.

Our Purpose/Mission

Our values underpin what we seek to achieve on a day-to-day basis at The Cotswold School, which is ‘enabling academic excellence and opportunities for all, within a caring community’.

This statement drives what our staff provide for all of our students, in and out of the classroom.

The safe, happy and positive atmosphere that is evident from the moment you walk through the door of The Cotswold School, coupled with our outstanding record of academic achievement and extra-curricular participation, show that we are fulfilling our purpose.

Our Vision

When making strategic decisions, our governors, leadership team and staff will carefully consider whether those decisions will help to achieve our long term aim, which is ‘creating brilliant futures’ for our young people.
