Laboratories, clubs and equipment: expanding our Science provision!

Royal Society of Chemistry award
We have been awarded £1,000 by the Royal Society of Chemistry. The grant will be used to buy melting point apparatus, a vacuum pump and a hot plate and magnetic stirrer.

Miss Lowson, STEM coordinator and teacher of Science said,

“These items will really help us, primarily in A Level Chemistry, to synthesis organic chemicals such as Aspirin and then check their purity.”

Creating accurate scientific graphs
We enjoyed hatching, weighing and measuring grey partridge chicks so much that a few of our Year 7 students worked with Mrs Lewis to create a video resource for primary school pupils.

Their video on producing accurate scientific graphs was sent out to Rissington, Cold Aston, Stow and Bourton primary schools.

Click here to see how Bourton Primary School’s Year 6s put the instruction video to great use!

After-school STEM club
Year 7 pupils are working with Miss Lowson on challenges that encompass science, technology, engineering and maths. Among their activities, they have been building bridges using dry spaghetti and marshmallows. This developed their teamwork and logistical skills, using limited resources in a race against time!

New science laboratories to open
In September 2021 we open two new science laboratories! We can’t wait to share these state-of-the-art facilities with our current and incoming students.
