BTEC
These are two-year courses of study for learners committed to developing their skills, knowledge and understanding of the sports sector. You’ll achieve the blend of technical and academic skills to become the individuals that employers and universities are seeking.
Extended Certificate (equivalent to one A Level)
All students complete mandatory units through a mixture of examinations, case studies, investigations, research projects, action plans and work experience. These include: anatomy and physiology; fitness training and programming for health; sport and wellbeing; and professional development in the sports industry.
Diploma (equivalent to two A Levels)
In addition to the units above, the Diploma assesses your skills in sports leadership; sports psychology; sports injury management and rehabilitation; an investigation into business in sport and leisure; and the study of skills acquisition.
Careers and study progression
There is a clear route into sports sectors, with opportunities to study degree courses in Sport, Physical Education or Coaching Science, to name a few. You could take roles such as a physical activity leader or fitness/leisure assistant and develop plenty of transferable skills, such as communication, teamwork and leadership.

Five GCSEs at grades 9-4 including grade 4 in
GCSE Mathematics and English Language
Assessment
A mixture of examinations and internally assessed (moderated) coursework assignments.
Grades are awarded at Distinction*, Distinction, Merit or Pass, equivalent to A Level grades A* to E, and carry the same UCAS entry points.
