Celebrating a heritage through creativity

We welcomed Flora Emily and Robbie from the Rural Black History Project, who held workshops with our Year 8 historians. Flora said,

“We aim to connect our community to a more diverse understanding of our past, by bringing to life historical research that reveals the presence of black Britons throughout England’s rural history.”

Using a case study, the children represented the identity, family and achievements of a man called George, with connections to the Cotswold area. Children worked in groups, creating slogans and painting military drums and banners in his name. See more artwork here

Their work is exhibited at New Brewery Arts in Cirencester over half term (25-30th October).
