AS and A Level 

From the fascinating molecular dynamics of the cell to the impact we humans have upon our ecosystems, this is a challenging and fascinating course. Biology students have enthusiasm and curiosity for our amazing living world and a willingness to work well with others. You will also need diligence, commitment, sound organisation and time management skills. It’s a fun and engaging course, accommodating a variety of teaching and learning styles, such as modelling, student-led lessons, practicals and lectures. Our students will communicate ideas and present, at times, to the rest of the class. A significant component of the course is mathematical.

Among many skills and topics, you’ll develop an appreciation of how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how the sciences contribute to the success of the economy and society. Modules include biodiversity, diseases, genetics, ecosystems, biotechnology and sustainability.

Careers and study progression
Biology complements so many subjects, including Geography, Chemistry, Art and Psychology and is key to many careers, including in medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, sports science, geology, and the environment. At its broadest level, Biology is a subject that will hone your valuable research and investigative skills.

Assessment
AS Level: Two written examination papers (Year 12)
A Level: Three written examination papers (Year 13) plus a practical endorsement for Biology
