The Adventures of Rex… and Milly

Student’s illustrations published in children’s book

It has been nearly two years since one of our talented students drew an illustration featuring a collection of animals in a classroom. Author Ali Lane loved it so much, she chose it for her new storybook.

The Adventures of Rex, about a not-so-ordinary rabbit, was published in August by Austin Macauley publishers.

Milly, who was in Year 10 when she created that first drawing, has illustrated the storybook throughout. Ali had contacted the school to propose a competition to find an illustrator and Milly was the lucky winner.

Recently, they have been busy promoting Rex, including recording an interview with BBC Radio Gloucestershire presenter Nicky Price.

Ali, who based her story on a much-loved pet, said,

“It is wonderful to know that Milly is getting the recognition she so deserves.  She is such a talented and lovely young lady. I am so blessed that she was on board, as she has been a joy to work with; always taking comments constructively and producing great ideas. In fact, we hope to do more!”
