A show to celebrate our drama and performance stars!

The four performances of Beauty and the Beast (13-16 July) were a triumph!

It has been three years since the last school show – but well worth the wait!  From lead roles to costume design, chorus to props, orchestra to stage management and lighting to direction, every member of the troupe excelled and enjoyed Beauty to the full.

The classic tale of an adventurous young woman who is captured and falls in love with the Beast – and whose love releases him – was given an edge in this performance. The theme of reading and books was front and centre, with a sinister tone to the lighting and make-up. But the familiar and catchy songs were there, performed beautifully by our talented singers and accompanied by a live orchestra.

Many students worked for weeks to build and paint the set; and to create props such as book art in clubs. The first performance, to children from Bourton Primary School, was a hit. It was up and up from there!

Naomi in Year 10, who performed in this show as well as in Between the Pages earlier in the year, is a GCSE Drama student. She said,

“Being in Beauty and the Beast was so much fun! It was a chance to get back into drama and theatre after Covid. I had so much to do and made so many amazing friends and memories. We all got so close at the end of the show, and it was really hard to say goodbye. One of my favourite moments was when we had finished our first night. We all felt so proud and excited for more!

“I’m going to miss everyone so much and can’t wait for the next production. A big thanks to the Performing Arts team, who made it fun and helped create the incredible production.”
