Art & Design (Textiles)
A Level
This is a demanding and enjoyable course, during which you will develop your particular interest and produce a portfolio of work to support applications for your next steps. You can focus on one particular area – such as fashion design; wallpaper; interior design or digital textiles – or a combination or specialism of your choice.
In Textiles, we encourage you to develop your skills in observing and recording experiences; undertaking research; and gathering, selecting and organising visual information.
As you build your portfolio, you’ll encounter a range of textile techniques under the disciplines of constructed, dyed, printed, fine art, and fashion textiles. Workshops will include felting, machine and hand embroidery, appliqué, screen printing, dyeing, batik and transfer printing. You will study the work of other artists to further your skills and develop ideas.
Careers and study progression
Students can progress to university on art-related degree courses, and through Foundation Art and Design courses. Your A Level qualification could lead to many careers in design industries, including in surface textile design, fashion management, costume design, textile and fashion buying, marketing and merchandising, and journalism.
